This site is based on the premise that journal writing
is more than simply a collection of a freelance writer's memories, experiences and/or perspectives on paper or online.
Its mission is to expose new writers to the art
and joy of journal writing, as well as provide ideas and opportunities for starting and maintaining such journals as valued
resources for articles, stories and books.
Dr. Zjawin discovered the value of writing these journals
a few years ago when she came across one of her completed idea notebooks of classroom activities that she later developed
and used in her published work: a book, Teaching Ideas for the Come-Alive Classroom (Parker Pub. Co./Prentice-Hall) and a
number of Instructor and Star-Ledger articles.

Since then, Dorothy has maintained her journal writing
and drawn ideas for other writing projects. One of the most recent projects is completing a book manuscript requested for
review by Scholastic. She has also developed online writing courses and served as a consulting faculty mentor of technical
writing for Thomas Edison State College.
Based in Roselle Park, New Jersey, ProfitablePen was founded
in 2002 and is solely supported by its editor, writer and webmaster, Dorothy Zjawin. |
